The Porter County Coroner’s Office has released the name of the Michigan man killed on Thursday in a head-on collision on U.S. Highway 6 in Jackson Township.

After deadline on Friday, Coroner Chuck Harris identified the deceased as Joseph Carlin, 58, of Niles, Mich.

According to police, at 10:27 p.m. Thursday Carlin was westbound on U.S. 6, near the intersection of C.R. 350E, when his 1995 Ford Crown Victoria crossed the center line and collided with a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Nathan O’Brien, 37, of Westville, who was eastbound on U.S. 6.

Niles was pronounced dead at the scene of massive blunt force trauma, Harris said, while O’Brien was transported to Porter Regional Hospital with non-incapacitating injuries.

The Porter County Sheriff’s Police is asking anyone who was in the area at the time of the crash to contact the PCSP at 477-3000.
