The Valparaiso Police Department is investigating the homicide of a male subject found deceased on Wednesday evening.

As of deadline today, the VPD has not released the name of the victim.

According to police, at 9:45 p.m. Wednesday officers were dispatched to the 700 block of Elm Street following the report of a “man down.” On their arrival, the man was found dead and a death investigation was initiated.

On Thursday morning, at 10:30 a.m., the VPD announced that the man’s death had been confirmed as a homicide. The VPD also reported that the victim and his assailant “were familiar with each other and therefore the incident was isolated to those involved.”

“There appears to be no threat to the community safety at this time,” the VPD said.

The VPD is asking anyone with information about the homicide to contact the department at (219) 462-2135. Information can also be texted to TIP411 (847-411); enter “Valpo” in the message field prior to sending the message and use the word “Elm” in the first line of the tip to identify the case.

“Additional information regarding this incident will be released when it is available,” the VPD said.
