The Porter County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim of Wednesday’s homicide in Valparaiso.

The victim was identified as Travis Thompson, 36, a resident of Valparaiso.

Cause of death: exsanguination from a stab wound to the femoral artery.

In its own statement, released after deadline on Friday, the Valparaiso Police Department said that Thompson’s name had been withheld to provide his immediate family “ample time to notify all next of kin.”

Meanwhile, the investigation into Thompson’s stabbing is ongoing. Officers initially responded shortly after 10 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, to the 700 block of Elm Street, where they found Thompson deceased.

“The investigation of this incident is ongoing under the cooperative efforts of the Valparaiso Police Department, the Porter County Sheriff’s Department, the Porter County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Office of the Porter County Coroner,” the VPD said.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact the VPD at (219) 462-2135. Or text TIP411 (847-411) and enter “Valpo” in the message field prior to sending the message. Use the word “Elm” in the first line of the tip to identify the case.
