Two persons were injured Saturday and a motorist was cited in a three-vehicle accident on Ind. 49, Chesterton Police said.

According to police, at 12:18 p.m. Emily F. McClean, 20, of Valparaiso, was southbound on Ind. 49, in the right-turn lane for westbound Indian Boundary Road, when she attempted to brake but slid on the wet pavement into the rear of a second vehicle. Police said that the impact of collision drove the second vehicle into the rear of a third.

The driver of the second vehicle was Nebojsa Smiljic, 60, of North Point, Fla. The driver of the third vehicle was Tina M. Giorgetti, 52, of Michigan City.

McLean complained of chest pain and her passenger, Clare H. Huffstetter, 21, of Milwaukee, Wis., sustained a contusion to the face, police said.

McClean was issued a citation for following too closely, police said.

Police estimated total damage to McClean’s 2005 Chevrolet Impala, Smiljic’s 2015 Honda Accord, and Giorgetti’s 2010 Dodge Journey at up to $10,000.
