The Indiana State
Police recently participated in the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s
eighth Drug Take Back Event, on April 26, when Hoosiers across the state
dropped off unwanted or expired prescription drugs.
The first DEA Drug
Take Back Event took place in September 2010 and resulted in 2.4 tons of
drug dropped off for disposal. Now the numbers are in for the most recent
Drug Take Back: fully 12 tons of drugs were collected, with 1,752 pounds at
ISP drop-off locations alone.
The Drug Take Back
“helps reduce the improper disposal of unwanted prescription drugs by
providing an alternative to flushing them down the toilet, placing them in
with the regular trash or leaving them in the home and making them
susceptible to unintended or illegal use,” the ISP said.
