A trucker sustained
a gunshot wound on Wednesday night in what the Indiana State Police
described as a road-rage incident on I-94 here in Duneland.
According to
police, at 6:40 p.m. the trucker was westbound on I-94 when, approximately
one mile east of the Burns Harbor exit, he attempted to pass a slower moving
semi on the left.
As the trucker was
doing so, the driver of a gray SUV approached his rig from behind at high
rate of speed and attempted to pass the trucker on the right.
When the SUV’s
driver was unable to make the pass, however, an altercation ensued between
that driver and the trucker, in the course of which the trucker “heard a
gunshot and felt something strike his leg” as the SUV was passing him.
The SUV’s driver
completed the pass and continued westbound on I-94. Meanwhile, the trucker,
on checking his leg, confirmed that he had been struck by a bullet, police
said.
The ISP is asking
anyone in the area who may have witnessed the incident or observed a gray
SUV with an Indiana license plate driving erratically during this time to
contact Trooper Bohling or Det. Runde at (219) 696-6242.
