A trucker was injured early this morning after rolling his rig on I-65 in Lake County, the Indiana State Police said.

According to police, at 4:31 a.m. Jeffrey B. Keel, 36, of Mayville, Wis., was northbound on I-65, two miles south of Crown Point, when he reached for a drink between the driver’s and passenger’s seats. “Keel stated when he looked up the semi had drifted off the road and when his tires hit the gravel off the shoulder he lost control and his semi overturned,” police said.

The windshield in the cab of Keel’s 2012 Freightliner had to be broken to extricate him from the driver’s compartment, police said.

Keel--who was wearing a seatbelt--was transported to Saint Anthony’s Hospital in Crown Point with non-life threatening injuries.

The Freightliner was owned by TTI Inc. of Eden, Wis., and was loaded with produce en route from Florida City, Fla., to Lemont, Ill. There was no load loss.

Keel was issued a citation for unsafe lane movement and log book not current, police said.

The right lane of I-65 was closed for approximately three hours.
