Trucker dies in crash on I-65 in Jasper County

A Miami, Fla., trucker died on Thursday after running off the roadway on I-65 in Jasper County, the Indiana State Police said.

According to police, at 9:37 a.m. Julio Lazaro Ares, 40, was southbound on I-65 at the 214 mile marker, just south of the Rensselaer exit, when for an unknown reason he left the roadway, traveled into a ditch on the west side of the Interstate, and struck a tree.

Ares was pronounced dead at the scene by the Jasper County Coronerís Office.

Aresí box trailer was loaded with plastic film and canned fruit. There was no load loss. Aresí pet dog was released to the custody of Jasper County Animal Control. His 2007 Volvo tractor was owned by D&R Logistics Inc. of Romeoville, Ill.

The right lane was closed for about an hour for removal of the semi and cleanup.
