A trucker was cited on Monday after he lost control of his semi-tractor trailer on I-65 in Lake County, the Indiana State Police said.

According to police, at 5:10 p.m. Matthew J. Stockwell, 35, of Scottville, Mich., was southbound on I-65 when, he later advised, his steering locked to the right, causing his rig to leave the roadway, hit a guard rail, then strike the bridge pillar of the 73rd Street overpass.

A small portion of his load--26,000 pounds of frozen food--was lost, police said.

Stockwell himself was not injured but he was issued a citation for unsafe lane movement.

Stockwell was driving for Herin Brothers Inc. of Hesperia, Mich.

The Indiana Department of Transportation inspected the bridge and found no structural damage, police said.
