A Chicago trucker was cited this morning after rolling his rig on an
Interstate ramp in Lake County, the Indiana State Police said.
According to police, Robert A. Durham took the ramp “too fast” from
northbound I-65 to westbound I-80, the left side of his trailer left the
pavement, his load of 42,000 pounds of Budweiser shifted, and his rig rolled
onto its passenger side.
Durham was transported to Methodist Hospital in Gary with non-life
threatening injuries. He was issued citations for speed too fast to avoid
collision and unsecured load and also placed out of service for a log book
violation, police said.
The semi was owned by AM Express of Escanaba, Mich. The beer was en route to
Chicago from Columbus, Ohio. The ramp was still partially closed at deadline
today, for off-loading the beer, and police said that the ramp would not be
entirely re-opened before 1 p.m.
