A Jackson Township man died on Sunday after a tree he was felling on his property landed on top of him, the Porter County Sheriff’s Police is reporting.

Coroner Chuck Harris identified the victim this morning as Allan Marschak, 50.

According to police, around 4:25 p.m. Marschak was felling trees on his property, located in the 800 north block of C.R. 500E, when one of the trees toppled towards him, trapping him beneath. Despite efforts by family and first-responders to cut back the tree and safely remove him, Marschak was pronounced dead at the scene.

Responding to the scene were PCSP deputies, Porter Regional Hospital EMS, and the Liberty and Washington volunteer township fire departments. LTVFD Assistant Chief Wineland reported that the WTVFD established a landing zone for a helicopter at the scene, after EMS initially requested an airlift from Lutheran Air Helicopter.
