Three people died on Thursday in a two-vehicle accident on Ind. 130 in Union Township, the Porter County Sheriff’s Police is reporting.

All three were the occupants of the same vehicle and all three were residents of Valparaiso. They have been identified as Mathew Shupe, 17, the driver; Morgan Rodd, 20, the front-seat passenger; and Olivia Ogiego, 20, the backseat passenger.

According to police, at 1:35 p.m. Shupe was westbound on Ind. 130 when, west of C.R. 625W, he crossed the center line and his 2001 Ford Focus collided with a semi-tractor trailer eastbound on Ind. 130.

Shupe and Rodd were pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Ogiego was airlifted from the scene via UCAN to an unspecified hospital, where she subsequently died, police said.

“The driver of the semi truck was not injured, was cooperative, and submitted to a breath test, subsequently registering 0.00 percent with no alcohol present,” police said.

The Porter County Reconstruction Team was at the scene investigating the crash and was being assisted by the Indiana State Police’s Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division, which conducted an inspection of the semi.

“Please keep the families of these victims in your thoughts and prayers during this time,” police said.
