Porter County Sheriff’s Police responded to a report of a submerged vehicle on CR 550 South, just east of CR 450 West in rural Porter Township.

The driver, an 82-year-old Hebron woman was traveling west on CR 550 South when her 2007 Buick Lucerne began taking water.

When officers arrived on scene, she was still inside the vehicle, but a nearby resident was already on his way out to help her in his own canoe.

Once back on drier land, she was evaluated by EMS and transported to an area hospital by her own family to be checked out, police said.

Assisting at the scene removing the vehicle was Green’s Towing.

Sheriff Police urge residents to use caution when driving. If the roadway is water covered and not visible; don’t risk it, find an alternate route.
