A Valparaiso man was found dead in a ditch along I-80/94 on Sunday, the
Indiana State Police said.
The man was identified as Ronnie Stanley, 51.
According to police, Stanley was last seen by a close acquaintance around 11
p.m. Friday. Stanley had been a passenger in the acquaintance’s car
eastbound on I-80 when he and his acquaintance quarreled, police said.
The acquaintance dropped him on the outer shoulder at the 14.6 mile marker,
west of Ripley Street, but when the acquaintance return to pick Stanley
up—after turning the vehicle around at Ripley, going westbound on Broadway,
and then east again—Stanley was no longer there, police said.
After failing to hear from Stanley on Saturday and Sunday, relatives began
to retrace his movements and discovered the body in a water-filled ditch,
“No foul play is suspected,” police said. An autopsy was scheduled.
