A LaPorte man was arrested today on a charge of murder, in connection with the unsolved slaying of a LaPorte girl in 1993, the Indiana State Police said.

Jason L. Tibbs, 38, was taken into custody after a traffic stop and transported to LaPorte County Jail, where he was being held without bond, police said.

Tibbsí arrest follows a five-year cold-case investigation into the slaying of 16-year-old Rayna Rison by ISP Det. Sgt. Al Williamson and LaPorte PD Det. Brett Airy.

On March 26, 1993, Risonís father reported her missing after she failed to return home after working a shift at the Pine Lake Animal Hospital in LaPorte. Risonís disappearance received nationwide news coverage at the time, including on an episode of Americaís Most Wanted.

One month later, on April 27, 1993, Risonís body was found in a pond near Range Road in LaPorte County and an autopsy resulted in her deathís being ruled a homicide.

The ISP released no other information today about Tibbsí arrest but did say that the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact Williamson at (800) 552-8917 or Airy at (219) 62-9446 (ext 210).
