The Porter County Sheriff’s Police are investigating a case of armed robbery
on Thursday at a residence in the 300 block of Cherryfield Drive in the
South Haven area of Portage Township.
According to police, at approximately 9:00 p.m. a resident was in his
backyard checking his hot tub when he heard a “clicking sound” of a gun
behind him. The resident was struck in the eye by a firearm and scuffled
with a male subject who then pointed the gun in the resident’s face, police
said.
The subject demanded the resident to give him what he had in his pockets,
$30 in cash, a black iPod Nano and a silver/black iPod Touch, police said.
On Friday, the resident retraced his steps and found a Federal .45 caliber
bullet, police said. Police observed the resident had an abrasion to his
right shoulder, scratches on his arms and neck and bruising to his left eye.
The resident described the subject as a Hispanic male, 20-22 years of age,
5’6”, about 145 pounds, black hair wearing a black T-shirt with a white
design on the front and blue jean shorts, police said.
Witnesses in the area told police they had observed a suspicious dark
colored passenger vehicle. One witness said she observed a white male
subject wearing a baseball cap running towards the passenger side of the
vehicle and take off in an unknown direction, police said.
