The Simply Mac store at 2710 LaPorte Ave was robbed at gunpoint on Saturday, for the second time in two weeks, Valparaiso Police said.

According to police, shortly before 7:35 p.m. four male subjects--one of them confirmed to have been armed--entered the store, accompanied by a female subject who had been in the store by herself earlier in the evening. After confronting and disarming a security guard, the five herded all employees into a back room and there restrained them.

They then took merchandise with a total estimated value of $70,000, police said.

The two robberies, the first occurring on Saturday, Dec. 10, are believed to be connected, police added.

Two of the suspects were described as black males between 20 and 30, each carrying a duffel bag. One of them was approximately 6’ 5’’ in height and 210 pounds in weight with an average build and short braided hair; the other, approximately 5'9" and 250 pounds.

Simply Mac is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the persons responsible.

The two Simply Mac armed robberies resemble the armed robbery around noon on Monday, Nov. 15, of the Verizon store at 705 Plaza Drive in Chesterton. In that incident three men escorted employees and customers to a rear room at gunpoint, then restrained them, before leaving with merchandise, the contents of the store safe, and a customer’s purse.

Anyone with information about the suspects or the robbery of the Simply Mac are being urged to contact VPD Det. Andrew McIntyre at (219) 462-2135 or text a Tip to TIP411 (847-411) and enter “Valpo” in the message field before sending the tip.
