A trucker was cited on Monday after rolling his rig on an I-94 off-ramp in Burns Harbor, the Indiana State Police said.

According to police, at 11:35 a.m. Donald Bell, 60, of Belleville, Mich., was exiting eastbound I-94 for westbound U.S. Highway 20 when he took the ramp curve too fast, causing his load to shift and both his tractor and box trailer to tip onto the driverís side.

Burns Harbor firefighters had to cut off the top of the tractor to extricate Bell, police said.

Bell--who was issued a citation for speed too fast to avoid a collision--was transported to Porter Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Bell was hauling crates containing six-inch round solid pieces of steel, police said. He was driving for Bella Transport of Taylor, Mich.

The ramp was closed for nearly four hours for off-loading the steel and righting the rig. Also responding to the scene was the Burns Harbor Police Department.
