Early this afternoon, at approximately 2:10 p.m., Indiana State Police
responded to a semi rollover that caused the ramp from State Road 49 north
bound to Interstate 94 east bound to be closed.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2004 Freightliner pulling a
flatbed trailer, driven by Vasil Simonovski, 24 of Chicago, Illinois was on
the ramp going too fast to properly negotiate the curve portion of the ramp.
Simonovski told police he could not recall what happened just that his semi
and trailer landed on its side.
The trailer was loaded with a 57,000 pound steel coil which rolled off into
the grass.
The semi was owned by P I and I Motor Express Inc. out of Masury, Ohio. The
load was coming from Portage, Indiana headed to Mishawaka, Indiana.
Simonovski was taken to Porter Hospital in Chesterton with non-life
threatening injuries.
Simonovski was cited for Speed Too Fast to Avoid a Collision, Over Weight
Permit Violation, and Equipment Violations.
The ramp was closed following the accident for reloading of the steel coil
and up righting the semi and trailer and repair to the ramp.
