A semi rollover during rush-hour this morning had the westbound lanes of
I-80 completely blocked in Lake County, the Indiana State Police said.
According to police, at 7 a.m. trucker Gregory Warchol, 32, of Brooklyn,
N.Y., was merging onto I-80 from the Indian Toll Road ramp when he “took the
curve too fast,” causing his unsecured load of 42,000 pounds of auto parts
to shift.
Warchol’s rig then rolled over onto its driver’s side, blocking all three
lanes of traffic, police said.
Warchol—who was wearing a seatbelt—sustained minor injuries. He was issued
citations for speed too fast to avoid collision and unsecured load, police
said.
His rig was owned by Multi Logistics of Elmhurst, Ill., and Warchol was en
route to Illinois from Pennsylvania.
All westbound lanes were closed for approximately 45 minutes, until
Warchol’s rig was pulled to the north to let traffic travel on the inner
shoulder and in the left lane, police said.
The auto parts were being offloaded this morning so Warchol’s rig could be
righted and removed.
