A semi hauling 40,000 pounds of honey rolled over on an I-65 on-ramp on Wednesday in Lake County, the Indiana State Police said.

According to police, at 3:30 p.m. trucker Collies Lee Sharpes Jr., 57 from Lambert, Miss., was westbound on Ind. 2 when he attempted to turn left onto the ramp for southbound I-65 when he “took the turn too fast and lost control.”

Sharpes’ tractor and box trailer rolled over onto their passenger’s side on the ramp’s outer shoulder, police said.

Sharpes was able to exit the tractor on his own power and escaped injury, police said. There was, however, a small fuel leak and the honeyÑloaded in 17 plastic totesÑhad to be offloaded before the trailer could be righted, police said.

Traffic was able to squeeze by the wreck, police added.

Sharpes was driving for Lucky 5 Inc. of Lemont, Ill.
