Westville Police are investigating a second death believed to be connected
to the fatal heroin overdose March 2 of a former Chesterton High School
student.
Roger Muckway, 46, was found dead at 12:30 a.m. Saturday in his mobile home
at 173 Birch Parkway in Westville.
Chief Deputy Al Borrego of the WPD told the Chesterton Tribune today that Muckway appears to have been dead about a week and that he died sometime
March 2 of a heroin overdose “affiliated” with the overdose that same day of
Shawn Rivera, 18, a resident of Jackson Township.
Rivera was transported to Porter Memorial Hospital at 5:08 a.m. March 2 by
two men who left the emergency room without identifying themselves. He died
around four hours later. CHS Principal Jan Bergeson told the Tribune last
week that Rivera withdrew from CHS as a junior in June 2001.
The WPD has since learned the names of the two men who dropped Rivera at PMH
and has determined that they transported him after he began convulsing on
the floor, Borrego said. When exactly Muckway died is still unclear.
The WPD is not yet releasing the names of those two men.
Information developed by the WPD also indicates that several items of
expensive jewelry as well as cash may be missing from Muckway’s mobile home,
Borrego added.
The investigation is continuing, he said, and charges are pending.
