A Liberty Township resident charged with robbery was taken into custody on Wednesday as he was attending class at Chesterton High School, Chesterton Police said.

According to police, at 10:59 a.m. Aric Deangelis, 18, of 80E 950N, was taken into custody in his classroom and transported to Porter County Jail.

Deangelis was wanted in connection with the robbery of a 19-year-old Valparaiso man on March 26 in Kirchoff Park. Valparaiso Police said that Deangelis and a 17-year-old Valparaiso boy robbed the man as the man was waiting in his car to conduct a drug deal in the park. The two, their faces covered by bandannas, punched the man in the face, pulled him out of the car, and stole $120 in cash and a quantity of marijuana, the VPD said.

The 17-year-old Valparaiso boy, facing a delinquency charge of robbery, was being detained at the Porter County Juvenile Detention Center on an unrelated charged, the VPD said.
