A driver and his passenger were taken into custody on Tuesday, following an apparent road-rage incident on I-65 in Jasper County, the Indiana State Police said.

According to police, at 11:30 a.m. troopers responded to a report of a road-rage incident involving two vehicles northbound on I-65 near the Rensselaer exit. The vehicles subsequently exited at Roselawn/Demotte, where a traffic stop was performed on Joseph Biacan, of Derwood, Md., for following at an unsafe distance, police said. Biacan showed signs of intoxication and registered a blood alcohol content of .09 percent on a certified chemical test, police said.

Meanwhile, Biacan’s passenger, Nicole A. Jacobson, 30, of Waianae, Hawaii, was asked for identification as well as a statement but “became combative and uncooperative,” showed signs of having consumed alcohol, and when officers attempted to handcuff her--after she “started to stumble into traffic”--she “began to kick and hit officers,” police said.

“An ambulance was called to the scene for a welfare check due to Jacobson's high level of intoxication as well as her stating to officers that she was pregnant,” police added.

Both Biacan and Jacobson were transported to the Jasper County Jail, Biacan on a charge of operating while intoxicated, Jacobson on charges of battery on law enforcement, resisting law enforcement, and public intoxication, police said.
