KINGSBURY, Ind. (AP) — Northern Indiana authorities are investigating the
theft of a stretch of abandoned railroad tracks removed from an industrial
park with heavy machinery. The South Bend Tribune reports that the owner of
the LaPorte County property where some of the tracks were stolen from says
it looks like whoever stole the tracks used heavy machinery, including a
bulldozer. Scott Woodham says the thieves were “pretty bold.”
Police say a street was dug up to remove some of the rails and some trees
were knocked down to get access to other rails.
The tracks were stolen from the Kingsbury Industrial Park, about 40 miles
west of South Bend.
Police say the tracks were stolen in the past two weeks.
