More than 1,000
Chesterton households woke up this morning without power.
Blame a squirrel.
A Northern Indiana
Public Service Company spokesperson told the Chesterton Tribune today
that 1,100 customers--including the Tribune offices--lost
electric service around 6:30 a.m. when a squirrel ran afoul of a transformer
in the Morgan Park neighborhood.
Power was restored
around 7:45 a.m.
The NIPSCO
spokesperson was unable to say where exactly the transformer is located but
Chesterton Deputy Fire Chief Nate Williams said that at 6:36 a.m. the CFD
responded to the southwest corner of East Morgan Ave. and Wilson Street for
a report of lines arcing. A NIPSCO crew arrived at 6:48 a.m. and the CFD
cleared the scene.
