A Hebron man is being held at the Porter County Jail in connection with the armed robbery of The Country Kitchen on Main Street in Hebron on Monday, the Porter County Sheriff’s Police said.

Jeffery John Smar, 47, is facing a preliminary charge of robbery, and police said that he may be a suspect in other recent robberies in Center Township, Hebron, and Lake County.

According to police, at 3:15 p.m. Monday officers responded to Smar’s residence at 347S 600W in Porter Township, after Smar was identified as a possible suspect in the armed robbery of The County Kitchen earlier in the day. Smar was taken into custody without incident.

Police said that a vehicle similar to a suspect vehicle seen at the scene of a previous armed robbery was observed in the garage of Smar’s residence.

Charges are pending in Lake County as well, police said.
