A Porter Township teen died over the weekend, apparently after crashing his dirt bike, the Porter County Sheriff’s Police said.

The victim was identified as Vincent Canzoneri, 15.

According to police, at 3:56 a.m. Sunday officers were dispatched to Canzoneri’s home after his mother, Justynne Canzoneri, reported him missing. Canzoneri had left home on his dirt bike around 8:30 p.m. Sunday and was believed riding to a friend’s house, police said. Canzoneri’s mother then left home herself but when she returned her son was still gone and she subsequently confirmed that he had not intended to spend the night with friend.

Officers began checking various trails in the areas where Canzoneri was known to ride, and at 5:10 a.m. Sgt. Mike Spicer and Officer Derek Cadwell found evidence of a recent crash in the approximate area of 130S 600W. They then located a dirt bike and Canzoneri off the road near a tree which had been struck, police said.

“Vincent was deceased, apparently due to injuries sustained in the crash,” police said.

The PCSP’s Crash Reconstruction Team investigated the accident and determined the crash involved one motorcycle only, “with no indication that another vehicle was in the area,” police said.

“Preliminary indications point to the possibility of mechanical failure on the motorcycle, causing the crash,” police added.

A PCSP chaplain accompanied officers to inform Canzoneri’s mother of his death.
