The condition of a 3-year-old girl found in a swimming pool early on Monday was not known this morning, the Porter Police Department was reporting.

According to police, shortly before 9 a.m. the girl was found, “unconscious and not breathing,” in an in-ground pool in the yard of a vacation rental in the 200 block of North Mineral Springs Road. The girl’s mother began CPR, which Fire Chief Jay Craig continued on his arrival at the scene.

First-responders succeeded in getting a pulse and reviving the girl, who was transported by ambulance to Porter Regional Hospital and subsequently airlifted to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Ill., police said. But as of deadline today the girl’s status was not known.

Police said that the girl was one of three children in the family, that “the mother had left a few minutes earlierto obtain breakfast for the family,” and that the father “was present in another room” at the time. “There were some minutes that the child was unaccounted for. These details remain under investigation.”
