Porter PD: Man admits Beam Street tire slashing

Back To Front Page

A possible charge of criminal mischief is pending against a Gary man after Porter Police said that he admitted slashing three tires on a vehicle parked in the 200 block of East Beam Street on Monday.

According to police, at 4:55 p.m. an officer was dispatched to the scene after the residents returned home to find their tires slashed. A witness, however, gave the victims the license number of the vehicle involved in the vandalism and as the officer was speaking to the victims they noted that the suspect vehicle was at that moment passing their house, police said.

The officer gave chase and stopped the vehicle on Franklin Street near Hawthorne Park.

Police said that the vehicle was being driven by a Westville woman, who advised that the vehicle belongs to her boyfriend, a Gary man. The woman then gave the officer permission to search the vehicle, which he did, to find several knives, a BB gun, and a paintball gun, police said.

When the Gary man arrived on scene to claim his vehicle, he admitted that he had, in fact slashed a tire, police said.

“Okay, I did all three tires,” the man added.

The man was released at the scene and the PPD has asked the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office to charge him with criminal mischief.
