Porter Police are investigating two burglaries in the Orchard Apartments at
700 N. Waverly Road, the first in the 700 building, the second in the 600
The first burglary was reported shortly after midnight on Sunday, when a
resident returned home to find the lights on in her apartment and two male
subjects fleeing through a rear sliding door. Police said that the sliding
door had been forced open and the latch broken.
The whole of the apartment had been ransacked and items strewn across the
floor. Stolen: a 47-inch Samsung flatscreen television, a Playstation3, an
Xbox 360, 11 video games, assorted jewelry, a Playstation 22-inch 3D TV with
two pairs of glasses, a necklace, an iPod, an iPhone, a cable box, a Visio
22-inch flatscreen TV, a bag containing around $600 in cash, a H-P computer
tower, a Coach purse, and personal identification.
The suspects, two of them, were described as white males dressed in black.
Once outside the apartment, they split up, one going north, the other east,
police said. K-9 units were unable to establish a track.
No estimate of loss was available.
The second burglary was reported at 6:16 p.m. Monday. As in the earlier
burglary, access to the apartment was gained by forcing open a rear sliding
glass door, police said. Stolen: a Playstation3, a DVD, and $50 in cash.
