A Portage woman died on Thursday of injuries sustained in an accident on Ind. 149 in Portage Township, the Porter County Sheriff’s Police said.

The victim has been identified as Irline Marie Holley, 69.

According to police, at 1:49 p.m. Holley was eastbound on C.R. 700N when she disregarded a red light at the intersection of Ind. 149. Police said that Holley’s 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix was then struck on the driver’s side by a flatbed truck loaded with concrete forms southbound on Ind. 149.

Holley was subsequently transported by South Haven EMS to a landing zone for airlifting to an unspecified trauma center but died of her injuries at the scene, police said.

The driver of the 2004 Kenworth, Jesus Garcia-Valdez, 27, of Calumet City, Ill.--who police said had the right of way--escaped injury.

Ind. 149 between U.S. Highway 6 and C.R. 600N was closed for approximately two hours.

The results of a routine toxicology screen on Holley are pending, police said.
