Portage Police are investigating the armed robbery early this morning of the
Steak & Shake at 6231 U.S. Highway 6.
According to police, at 4:39 a.m. two masked male subjects entered the
store, one carrying a black handgun with a chrome barrel, the other a
black-handled knife with a silver blade. The knife-wielding subject
instructed the clerk to give him the money from the cash register but did
not ask for access to the safe—which the clerk would not have been able to
open anyway—then the two left the business in an unknown direction.
The clerk couldn’t say whether they fled on foot or by vehicle.
An undisclosed amount of money was stolen in the robbery.
The suspect with the knife—possibly Caucasian —stood 5’ 7’’ in height and
was wearing dark clothing, aviator glasses, and a ski mask. The suspect with
the gun—also possibly a Caucasian—was taller, 6’ 3’’ in height, and was
similarly dressed, in dark clothing, aviator glasses, a mask, and gloves.
The clerk advised that he kept his handgun pointed on him and his co-worker
throughout the incident.
The clerk also advised that there had been no customers in the store for 20
minutes prior to the robbery and that none of the customers earlier in the
evening appeared to match the suspects’ descriptions.
