A 29-year-old Portage man died Tuesday after crashing his motorcycle at the
intersection of U.S. Highway 20 and Old Porter Road, Portage Police said.
The man’s name was being withheld this morning, pending notification of
family.
According to witnesses, at 11:06 p.m. the motorcyclist was eastbound on Old
Porter Road, traveling at a high rate of speed from Jelly Stone Park, when
he left the roadway, then “over-corrected to re-enter the roadway.” After
returning to the road surface, the motorcyclist appears to have locked up
his brakes, causing him to skid across the roadway and into a guard rail,
police said.
The man was transported to Porter Regional Hospital, where he later died of
his injuries.
The accident remains under investigation by the PPD’s Crash Team.
