Portage Police are
seeking the public’s help in identifying the man who robbed the Horizon Bank
at gunpoint on Monday.
According to
police, at 12:31 p.m. a male subject entered the bank, located at 2650
Willowcreek Road, displayed a black handgun, and was given an undetermined
sum of money. The suspect reportedly fled on foot.
No one was injured
in the robbery.
Portage police
officers responded to area--as did the Lake County Sheriff’s
Police helicopter--but the suspect was not located.
The suspect was
described as a black male, 5’ 6’’ to 5’ 9’’ in height, wearing blue jeans, a
black hoodie, and a Rastafarian-style knit cap.

Chief Troy Williams told the Chesterton Tribune today that
investigators have “solid physical evidence” as well as usable surveillance
photos and that he’s hopeful an arrest will be quickly made. “We will
exhaust all resources and efforts to locate and arrest this subject,”
Williams said.
Anyone who may have
been in the area at the time of the burglary--who may have seen a man
matching this description at or near the bank--or who may have seen him
getting out of or into a vehicle--is asked to contact Capt. Joe Reynolds at

is offering a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of
