A Purdue University
North Central basketball player was killed early Saturday morning after he
lost control of his vehicle on U.S. Highway 6 in Jackson Township.
The victim was
identified as Juan Luis Lamarr III, 19, of Hobart.
According to
police, at 12:38 a.m. Lamarr was eastbound on U.S. 6 when, for an unknown
reason, his 2001 Jeep left the roadway to the south, traveled over a gravel
access road and back up on embankment, then went airborne across all lanes
of U.S. 6 and came to rest deep in a wooded area north of the roadway.
Responding to the
scene were the Liberty Township, Washington Township, and Westville fire
departments and Porter Regional Hospital EMS. The PNC website lists Lamarr
as a freshman guard who graduated from Hobart High School.
