Alert Round the Clock employees identified a counterfeit $100 bill on Friday after a customer attempted to use it to make a purchase.

According to police, at 5:55 p.m. a male subject in party of six asked an employee at Round the Clock, at 1607 S. Calumet Road, whether he could make change for a $100 bill. The employee said that he could not, at which point the man selected several items for sale near the front counter, then presented what proved to be a counterfeit $100 bill.

The employee returned the bill to the man, who then selected a real $100 bill from his wallet and used it to pay for the items, police said.

The meal itself was paid for by credit card.

Police said that the license number of the vehicle used by the party returned to an Illinois rental vehicle.
