The Porter County Sheriff’s Police is investigating the second reported theft of a gas tank from a pontoon boat moored on Long Lake in the 600 north block of C.R. 70E in Liberty Township.

According to police, sometime between July 30 and Friday someone removed the tank, described as a red Johnson six-gallon model with a built-in gauge and exterior flanges to hold a gas line. “The boat was on the water at the time of the theft and was not locked,” police said.

Police estimated the loss at $100.

On Aug. 6 the owner of a different pontoon boat reported the theft of his craft’s gas tank as well. The investigating officer in that case indicated the possibility that the thief had accessed the scene from his own boat on the water. Police estimated the loss of the first gas tank at $70.
