A motorcyclist was
killed on Tuesday in a two-vehicle accident in Porter Township, the Porter
County Sheriff’s Police said.
The victim was
identified as Michael Kotas, 45, of Hebron.
police, at 5:48 p.m. Kotas was westbound on C.R. 350S when he disregarded a
stop sign at the intersection of C.R. 600W and then struck a 2016 Jeep
Cherokee southbound on C.R. 600W. Kotas was ejected from his 2007 Harley
Davidson and declared deceased at the scene, police said.
The driver of the
Jeep Cherokee was Scott Paul, 46, of Hebron, who escaped injury. Police said
that Paul was cooperative and submitted to a routine breath test, on which
he registered a blood alcohol content of 0.00 percent.
Police did say that
in the accident a utility pole was sheared in half and that the intersection
would likely remain closed for the rest of the night while investigators and
first-responders worked there.
