A motorcyclist was killed on Tuesday in a two-vehicle accident in Porter Township, the Porter County Sheriff’s Police said.

The victim was identified as Michael Kotas, 45, of Hebron.

According to police, at 5:48 p.m. Kotas was westbound on C.R. 350S when he disregarded a stop sign at the intersection of C.R. 600W and then struck a 2016 Jeep Cherokee southbound on C.R. 600W. Kotas was ejected from his 2007 Harley Davidson and declared deceased at the scene, police said.

The driver of the Jeep Cherokee was Scott Paul, 46, of Hebron, who escaped injury. Police said that Paul was cooperative and submitted to a routine breath test, on which he registered a blood alcohol content of 0.00 percent.

Police did say that in the accident a utility pole was sheared in half and that the intersection would likely remain closed for the rest of the night while investigators and first-responders worked there.
