A charge of operating while intoxicated is pending against a Porter Township
motorist who struck an off-duty Portage Police officer’s marked squad car on
Wednesday at the intersection of Ind. 2 and C.R. 500W, the Porter County
Sheriff’s Police said.
According to police, at 6:45 p.m., PPD Officer Frank Lizak was northbound on
C.R. 500W when the Porter Township woman turned in front of him.
Lizak sustained a hematoma and abrasion to the left side of his head and
complained of shoulder pain, police said.
The woman, for her part, admitted having six beers at Duffy’s prior to the
crash and told another officer that she’d had four beers while at dinner,
police said. The woman registered a blood alcohol content of .293 percent on
a blood test administered at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Crown Point, police
said.
The woman sustained a laceration to her left knee and a large bruise on her
shin and was receiving additional treatment, police said.
The PCSP has requested a warrant for the woman’s arrest on an OWI charge.
She was also issued a citation for failure to yield.
