A motorist was
seriously injured on Monday in a rollover accident on Ind. 2 in Boone
Township, the Porter County Sheriff’s Police said.
As of this morning,
the PCSP had not released the motorist’s name.
police, at 1:54 p.m. Monday the motorist was northbound on Ind. 2, south of
C.R. 100S, when that person’s red 1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass left the roadway
to the east for unknown reasons, striking a utility pole and an embankment,
then rolling over. The motorist was ejected from the vehicle and
subsequently airlifted to Memorial Hospital in South Bend with “serious
internal injuries,” police said.
That motorist is
also believed to have been previously involved in a hit-and-run on Ind. 2 in
the area of Southfield Lane, police added, in which the Oldsmobile
rear-ended a Von Tobel’s delivery truck. The driver of the truck advised
police that a red or maroon passenger vehicle “came up behind him at a high
rate of speed, struck the rear of his delivery truck, then passed him at
excessive speeds continuing northeast on Ind. 2.”
Speed is believed
to be a contributing factor to the crash, police said, and the results of a
toxicology screen are pending.
