A motorist was airlifted to hospital on Thursday after a deer crashed through her windshield in Center Township, the Porter County Sheriff’s Police is reporting.

According to police, at 5:21 p.m. the 19-year-old motorist was northbound on Froberg Road, south of C.R. 500N, when a deer entered her path of travel and was struck, crashing through the windshield of her 2018 Jeep Wrangler.

Following immediately behind the Jeep was an off-duty PCSP officer, Det. Sgt. Dziedzinski, who provided the motorist and her 20-year-old passenger with first aid pending the arrival of the Valparaiso Fire Department and EMS.

The motorist was subsequently airlifted to Memorial Hospital in South Bend with unspecified injuries, police said. Her passenger was treated at the scene for minor injuries and released.

“Neither speed nor alcohol is believed to be a factor in this crash,” police said. “No further information is available at this time,” police said.
