The Porter County Sheriff’s Police is investigating the theft of jewelry from a residence in the 900 block of North Calumet Ave. in Liberty Township.

According to police, sometime between Sept. 28 and Christmas Eve someone removed four pieces of jewelry from a box in the resident’s bedroom: a 0.75 carat marquis-cut diamond in a platinum setting, a marquis-cut diamond and emerald ring, a amethyst surrounded by diamonds in a gold ring setting, and a necklace with a garnet and two diamonds.

The victim advised police that “her house is in a state of disrepair and looks like it has been ransacked all the time, so she has not noticed anything else missing,” police said.

Police estimated the total loss at $7,300.
