Conservation Officers are investigating a boat incident which occurred
Wednesday afternoon on Lake Michigan near Whiting Beach.
According to a
statement released by the Department of Natural Resources, two personal
watercrafts (PWCs) were operating near one another, outside of Whiting Beach
in Hammond, when they collided, resulting in a severe head injury to one of
the operators.
One of the
operators was airlifted to the University of Chicago from East Chicago and
is reported to be in critical condition, DNR said. The other operator was
released from the scene with no injuries.
The operators’
names are currently being withheld, DNR said, “due to the age of each
persons on board each vessel.”
The investigation
of details surrounding the collision of the two PWCs is still ongoing at
this time.
Neither alcohol nor
drugs appear to be a factor in the cause of the incident, DNR added.
