On street parking ban in unincorporated areas

Back To Front Page

The Porter County Sheriff’s Office is reminding residents of unincorporated areas of the ordinance which bans on-street parking when two or more inches of snow are forecast.

Failure to move your vehicle could result in its being towed at your expense and an ordinance citation issued with fines up to $50.

Off-street parking is important, as it speeds up the Highway Department’s ability to clear roadways, the Sheriff’s Office said. It also widens the travel lanes on roadways and makes it easier for emergency vehicles to respond to residences.

Visit for information on the ordinance.
