New chief of custody staff at Westville Correctional

Westville Correctional Facility Superintendent Mark Sevier is announcing the appointment of Chad Cornett as the new major in charge of all custody staff at the facility.

Cornett began as a corrections officer at Westville in 1990 was promoted correctional sergeant in 2000. The following year Cornett transferred to the Division of Youth Services at Camp Summit Juvenile Correctional facility, where he served as supervisor of youth services. Most recently, in 2016, Cornett was promoted to the position of captain at Madison Correctional Facility.

During his career with DOC, Cornett served as assistant commander of the Northern Regional Special Emergency Team Assistant as co-manager of the American Correctional Association and the Prison Rape Elimination Act audit processes at Camp Summit.

“Major Cornet has a depth of experience from working with staff and offenders at multiple types of facilities both large and small,” Sevier said. “Throughout his career, he has demonstrated strong adherence to and thorough knowledge of departmental security and programming procedures. I look forward to his contributions in his role as major towards positive change within the facility and for the community.”
