A Crown Point man has died of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on Aug. 5 on U.S. Highway 12, Porter Police said.

Police identified the victim as Robert C. Henderson. Lt. John Lane confirmed today that Henderson died in an Illinois hospital on Sunday.

According to police, at 9:13 p.m. Henderson was westbound on U.S. 12, west of Ind. 49, when he hit a rock in the roadway, causing him to leave the roadway to the north and strike a construction sign.

On arriving at the scene, the responding officer found Henderson lying in the grass approximately 10 feet from his 1992 Suzuki motorcycle. Henderson advised the officer that “he was having trouble breathing and possibly having an asthma attack,” police said.

Henderson--who was not wearing a helmet--had a cut on his forehead, scrapes on his arms and head, and a “large cut to his right side,” police said. The officer also observed “a large amount of blood to be coming from his waistband.”

Henderson was transported to Porter Regional Hospital and then to a hospital in Illinois.
