A Crown Point motorcyclist died on Friday of injuries sustained in a three-vehicle accident on Ind. 49 in Washington Township, the Porter County Sheriff’s Police said.

The victim has been identified as Andrew Vloedman, 42.

According to police, at 11:18 a.m. Vloedman, operating a 2011 Harley Davidson Heritage Softail, was northbound on Ind. 49 and stopping for a red light at the intersection of C.R. 500N when a second vehicle rear-ended his motorcycle. Police said that Vloedman was pushed into the intersection, where his Harley struck the rear of a third vehicle which was turning left from eastbound C.R. 500N onto northbound. Ind. 49.

Police said that Vloedman--who was not wearing a helmet--was thrown from his motorcycle. Vloedman was transported to Porter Regional Hospital’s ER, where he arrived in full arrest and was subsequently pronounced dead of blunt injuries at 12 p.m., Coroner Chuck Harris reported.

Police identified the driver of the 2015 Honda Accord which rear-ended Vloedman’s motorcycle as Lawrence Drummond, 58, of Valparaiso; and the driver of the 2009 GMC Sierra whose rear Vloedman struck as Jackilyn Sturghill, 23, of Hebron. Neither Drummond nor Sturghill was injured, police said.

The northbound lanes of Ind. 49 at that location were closed for approximately two hours, police said.

An autopsy and routine toxicology screen will be performed, Harris said, but “alcohol and drugs are not suspected.”
