A motorcyclist appears to have been seriously injured on Sunday after losing control of her bike on U.S. Highway 20, the Porter Fire Department said.

Assistant Fire Chief Jay Craig told the Chesterton Tribune today that, at approximately 9:08 p.m., the motorcyclist was westbound on U.S. Highway 20, approaching Worthington Drive, when for an unknown reason she lost control. Craig said that it’s possible she struck the rear wheels of a semi’s trailer but if so the trucker was not aware of the contact and did not stop.

The motorcyclist “was pretty banged up,” Craig said, but he was unable to say exactly what injuries she sustained or how extensive they were. The motorcyclist’s male passenger was thrown from the bike and sustained road rash and cuts.

EMS personnel transported the motorcyclist to Porter Regional Hospital. The Burns Harbor Fire Department transported her passenger.

Craig did not know the names of the two but believed the woman was aged 35.

No further information was available this morning from the Porter Police Department.
