A Michigan City motorcyclist died on Monday of injuries sustained in a two
vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 20 in Pine Township, the Porter County
Sheriff’s Police said.
The victim was identified as Grady Royal, 60.
According to police, at 4:15 p.m. Royal was eastbound in the right lane of
U.S. 20 when a second motorist westbound on U.S. 20 attempted to make a left
turn in front of him onto southbound County Line Road.
Royal collided with the vehicle, a 2000 Mercury passenger car driven by Amy
Ream, 28, of Westville.
Royal—who wasn’t wearing a helmet, police said—was ejected from his 2002
Harley Davidson and was found unconscious and unresponsive by emergency
responders.
Royal was transported to Saint Anthony Hospital in Michigan City, where he
was later pronounced dead.
The PCSP’s crash reconstruction team is investigating the accident.
“Alcohol, drugs, and speed are not believed to have played a role in the
crash,” police said.
